Editor's review
CNC Converter is a must-have tool to automate extraction of 2D and 3D drawings from Solid Edge format to CNC machines compatible DXF, SAT, IGS, STP and XGL files.
Pros: SE CNC Converter helps extract/convert proprietary Sold Edge format drawings to DXF, SAT, IGS, STP and XGL files that are more CNC machine compatible. SE CNC Converter thus works as a link between design department (Solid Edge files) and engineering and production teams who may use the most efficient software to actually generate CNC code.
First, you setup paths to your folders with Solid Edge files. (You can even setup multiple folder sets and custom file filters for each folder). Then setup the default directories for draft, part and assembly files to extract drawings to and which format to use. One can specify a suffix that will be added to the file for easy identification later. For example, if a suffix `_dft` is added, the draft file AF-123.dft will be exported to dxf as AF-123_dft.dxf
It is possible to run the program automatically. That helps save on a license specifically for the converter as then the converted could be run overnight on a floating license of one from the design department that is not in use during the night. You can specify how to work with log files. It is permissible to specify files that are maintained on Sharepoint or Insight. If you can map a network drive directly to Sharepoint, you can run SE CNC Converter on network folders. If you can not do that, download Webdrive software package that will enable your operating system to map remote Sharepoint folders via VPN, Remote Access, WebDAV and even ftp protocols.
Cons: No problematic issues noticed.
Overall: This is a easy to use, feature rich application easily rates a 4 star.
